Reminicing on the time spent in Abuja, facilitating a training for trainers on rights-based advocacy for women market traders about a year ago. It was really insightful and sad to hear the tales of discrimination they face daily due to multiple taxation/levies collection daily and various forms of gender-based harassment including verbal, non-verbal and physical. The goal is to pass on the learnings to women across market communities in Nigeria to take collective action and be backed with knowledge on required taxes and levies on a local, state and federal level and to be able to advocate for themselves.
This was part of an intervention by the Investment Climate Reform (ICR) Facility, led by SNV and implemented by Business and Professional Women (BPW) Nigeria.
As Kobikam Africa, we are always looking forward to the next phase of going into the market communities.
